What is the most important thing in any business? Sales!?
Nothing Happens In Your Business Until Somebody Sells Something!
As strange as it may seem many small business owners are afraid of sales and don't do it well. In my work with the Ohio SBDC I see it all the time. People come into our office looking for help getting financing, wanting to know what papers to fill out to start their business, or wanting help marketing but very few want help with sales. Most entrepreneurs are passionate about their product or service but don't think of themselves as sales people. Their perception of sales is skewed. They confuse professional sales with "Product Pushing". Sales is about providing value. If you have a product or service that you know will provide value to people it is your responsibility to put it in their hands. There are only two ways to accomplish this, either give it to them or sell it to them. As it relates to the health of your business selling it is the preferred option. Check out this video I did a few years back with Tiffany Timmons?Saab. We discuss the sales process and how to best interact with your prospective customer and provide value over pushing product.
What are your thoughts on the sales process? Are there sales methods you have found to be particularly successful? If so please share.
