A large percentage of health care providers still do not adopt the use of EHR systems despite the incentives that the US government is pushing their way. One of the reasons behind this is because the physicians who are accredited by health care institutions are not willing to undergo IT training.

In a survey, a significant number of physicians admit to the fact that they are not open to the idea of?EHR development?because it entails a lot of training on their end. As it is, minimum IT training required for physicians before using EHR systems are about eight hours. During this time, it is the responsibility of the developer of EHR systems to train the physicians on how to input data and retrieve it. Handling basic glitches will also be part of the training.

While EHR systems will indeed do a lot of good, there are admittedly a number of barriers that are seen with the adoption of such systems. On the other hand, while the unwillingness of physicians to accept the new trend in health care systems is not a good sign, though, it should still be used to inspire the stakeholders to further their efforts in making EHR systems more acceptable to traditional physicians instead of holding it against them or worse, accepting it as something that cannot be changed.
