Top food and drink names to help Dartmouth Food Festival ...

Some top names from the world of food and drink will help Dartmouth Food Festival celebrate its 10th birthday at the end of October.

Mitch Tonks, Mark Hix, James Tanner, Fiona Beckett, Giles Coren, Henry Dimbleby, Thomasina Miers, Holly and David Jones, Richard Bertinet, Tom Parker Bowles, Joyce Molyneux, Matthew Fort, Jane Baxter, Christine Smallwood, Steve Lamb, Mark Puckey, Serin Aubrey and Monty Halls are among those who have already confirmed for this year?s cookery demonstrations and discussions.

They will be taking part in the festival in the south Devon town from October 26? ? 28, preceded by a Pie and Puds Street Party Evening in the Flavel Arts Centre on the evening of October 25.

David Jones, the chairman of the food festival, said: ?Each of them has their own style and passions.

?Together they represent everything that?s great about British cooking and we are honoured to welcome them all to the festival.

?Food is for everyone, not just a few and it?s important to us that all can enjoy and support the event.

?That?s why I?m delighted to see so many different elements of the town getting involved and taking advantage of it?.

The organisers say that due to the success of the festival last year there will be even bigger marquees on the Embankment overlooking the River Dart, specialising in seafood together with more than 100 different South West food and drink stalls in the Old Market Square.

Three demo theatres will have the famous chefs cooking, demonstrating and answering cookery queries in back-to-back food demonstrations over the three days ? there will be the usual Saturday Morning Kitchen in the Flavel with Thomasina Miers and Richard Bertinet and Sunday brunch cooked by the three favourite local B&B owners.

This year there will also be a cooking school area in Royal Avenue Gardens sponsored by Manna from Devon Cookery School doing workshops including bread making, fish filleting and knife skills, together with a hands on demo area for all to get involved.

Also Hardeep Singh Kohli is holding a comedy & curry-making evening and Opera on the Run are getting involved as well.

The festival kicks off with the opening night party on October 25, based on a 1950s street party atmosphere with hearty pies, pickles and puds.

Thursday daytime it?s the children?s day where they meet local producers, farmers and their animals, make pizzas and sausages, meet sheep, guess the vegetable by touch, eat cream teas, stroke fish and octopus on the fish stalls together with quizzes and fun and games ? all the local primary schools are invited for a truly fun, exciting and educational day.
