With the first 5 days in the bag, I?m sitting exactly where I thought I?d be: ?dead last. ?Not only last, but being shut out! ?Anthony and Christian have both finished a game while I?m still trudging along on Super Metroid. ?It?s not that I?m taking the time to smell the roses on Planet Zebes, it?s that the game is just not a quicky. ?In classic Metroid style, there?s a lot of backtracking because of unlocked weapons and abilities that are required to get into new areas.
All in all, I?m thoroughly enjoying what many people believe to be one of the greatest video games ever made. ?Regardless of the rants that I?ve gone on about the gaming industry being lazy and making remakes and reboots left, right and center, I can say that, if there is a game in the history of our hobby that?s SCREAMING to be remade, it?s Super Metroid. ?The game holds up well, both with its graphics and its music, but I?m spending time imagining this game in high definition. ?Bionic Commando: Rearmed can be used as an example on how to modernize a classic.
Next Sunday will definitely see me cracking the scoreboard, with at least Super Metroid beaten, but perhaps a second game as well?
